Monday, September 16, 2013: With the aim of helping India establish renewable projects, the Indian renewable energy experts as well as institutions such as Centre for wind energy, solar energy centre, alternate hydro energy centre will soon be working with Chile.
The task of institutions will involve aiding the resource assessment of renewable energy sources, training of personnel in addition to preparation of projects with the aim of exploiting these technologies in Chile. Recently, Union minister, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Farooq Abdullah paid a visit to Chile. He had a meeting with Chilean Energy Minister, Jorge Bunster, where he made an offer to arrange for training slots in India to Chilean scientists, engineers and technicians through the Indian Technical And Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Programme.
According to a statement issued by the Press Information Bureau, the Union Minister stressed on the fact that India is interested in a serious and meaningful cooperation with the whole Latin American region, especially Chile with regard to renewable energy in addition to making an offer of all possible assistance.
The statement also pointed out that Bunster has informed Abdullah that Chile is totally dependent on imports for its energy requirements and hence, wants to diversify its energy mix through the introduction of a large component of renewables. Moreover, it commends substantial potential in wind, hydro, solar and geothermal energy. Bunster is aware of the fact that India possesses strengths in the field of renewable energy and has also made substantial achievement in this field.
