Tuesday, September 03, 2013: No response from government officials led a group of residents in Ambattur to seek help of Chief Minister’s cell for receiving digital meters in order to record the power generated through their solar panels. In the previous year, around 31 households in Ambattur turned to solar power, owing to the declarations by the Chief Minister in the Assembly that those households, which are solar-powered will receive payments in lieu of contribution of power to the grid.
After failing to receive a response from the government (Tamil Nadu) officials regarding receipt of solar power meters, the residents are now upset, which in turn has put them in the dilemma of whether to opt for solar power or not.
The residents, in a letter to J.Jayalalithaa stated that they were overwhelmed after the announcement was made by the Chief Minister, basis which they they took loans from bank for the installation of solar panels. Lack of information about being provided with a digital meter for recording power usage has become a cause of dejection for the residents.
But, official sources are of the opinion that since the draft policy on tariff order was released recently, therefore, they will need some time for providing meters to the residents as arrangements have to be made.
