Tuesday, August 27, 2013: Now, Charnaka village in Patan is better known for the usage of solar energy than the adverse effects of hot weather. This village is one of the important and backward districts of north Gujarat that is making India as well as the state proud. This area gets very less amount of rainfall. Newly constructed Solar Power Park in Patan district is the Asia’s biggest solar park. Chief Minister, Narendra Modi has dedicated the solar park in Patan to the nation.
Spread across 3,000 acres, mostly government land, it has solar power potential of 500MW with an operational capacity of 214MW. Around 390MW is being produced by ten other districts in the state. These make use of the inexhaustible source of renewable energy. Moreover, the state government is seeking to obtain some private land in order to attain the total capacity of 500MW in Solar Park.
This solar park in Gujarat is an innovative concept of the state government with the aim of promoting solar installations. For this purpose, developed land was allocated to the project developers with the necessary infrastructure like power evacuation, roads and water for commissioning of the power project.
The best part is the solar park is expected to save nearly eight million tonnes of carbon dioxide from getting released in the atmosphere and every year almost 900,000 tonnes of natural gas. Total 84 developers have been registered to construct a total of 968.5MW, from 1 to 40 MW. Moreover, it is expected that the capacity will increase to 1000MW by 2013.
