Thursday, July 25, 2013: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has announced changes in the mobile number portability (MNP) regulations. According to the new changes, now the corporate connections will be able to go for the mass portability in networks starting Wednesday. The mobile numbers of the corporate accounts can be ported only if there is a letter of authorisation (LOI) signed by the authorised signatory of the corporate mobile numbers.
According to the new regulations of TRAI, a maximum of 50 corporate connections will now be eligible for mass porting and will be able to port connections in a single porting request. As per the press statement of TRAI, the guidelines will come in force within 90 days from now and the telecom operators will be allowed only 48 hours to port users out, as against 24 hours which is allowed for individual porting requests.
This action was taken after TRAI received complaints from the corporate mobile subscribers that their number porting requests were rejected by the telecom operators due to the “Contractual Obligation” category, wherein they want the permission or authorisation from the company or corporate for porting the connections.
