Tuesday, July 16, 2013: The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has said that it will not accept new applications from Indian solar companies interested in becoming channel partners under its Off-Grid and Decentralised Solar Applications program. The announcement came of 11 July, as part of which India solar companies will be ceased to associate themselves as channel partners of MNRE.
According to the ministry, the applications that have already been received for channel partners, will be processed. This processing may last till the end of this month. Also, the existing partners will be eligible for renewal. The move has come into action because MNRE has reported a steep decline in the number of channel partners as of 1 July, 2013. However, the agency has remained tight-lipped about any reasons for discouraging this.
