Tuesday, May 28, 2013: The European Business and Technology Centre (EBTC) has proposed installation of floating solar panels in rural areas of Meghalaya. According to Suman Lahiri, regional manager of the EBTC, this kind of installation could contribute to the energy requirement especially in power-starved rural areas.
Lahiri was speaking at an interactive session on ‘Clean Technologies in Energy and Water Sectors’.
The technology is currently in commissioning mode by a French company in Karnataka. It is likely to be implemented in water bodies in Meghalaya.
“As the name suggests, the new solar technology does not require land for its installation but static water bodies. The north eastern region needs energy and has an abundance of water bodies,” PTI quoted Lahiri as speaking.
The demand for technology should be met with appropriate and customised solutions for the growth trajectory of the country to continue, added Poul V Jensen, director of EBTC.
