New manufacturing facilities in India (April 2013)

India’s manufacturing sector is set for a giant leap, with the government announcing a slew of measures to boost domestic manufacturing output. As a result, various companies catering to different sectors such as consumer electronics, telecom equipment, computers and solar energy are gearing up to expand their production facilities in India.

New production facilities will help to develop many other sectors like tools and equipment, test and measurement (T&M) devices, surface mount technology (SMT), and through-hole machines, etc.

Mitsubishi Electric India (MEI)

MEI has launched sub-assembly for A&D inverters in India. To support and enhance the inverter business, the company has started the sub-assembly of inverters from February 2013 in Pune. In the first phase MEI will manufacture micro drives up to 7.5 kW and will manufacture drives up to 15 kW over the period. The area for the sub-assembly of inverters is approximately 92.9 sq m (1000 sq ft), which is estimated to manufacture 40,000 units. MEI targets to manufacture 1,50,000 units in the next 3 years with an investment of Rs 150 million.

Bosch Ltd

Deals in:
Automotibe components, industrial, consumer goods and building technology

Bosch Ltd is planning to invest Rs 6000 million on setting up a new manufacturing plant at Bidadi, a town situated near Bengaluru. The company has acquired 97 acres from the Karnataka government for the construction of the new plant which will be set up over a period of five years starting 2012-13. The new plant will be constructed in two phases, between 2012-13 and 2015-16. Production from this facility will begin by the first quarter of 2014. In phase-I, Bosch will produce common rail pumps, common rain and glow plugs. The production of inline pumps, elements, delivery valves, as well as conventional and PF pumps will begin by the first quarter of 2017.

Sharp Business Systems
(India) Ltd

Manufactures:
Multifunction printers, projectors, solar power panels, air conditioners, etc.

Sharp Business Systems (India) Ltd will be investing Rs 2720 million to set up a production unit for inverter ACs in Pune. This plant will have a capacity to manufacture 0.5 million units a year during its first phase. The company has set a turnover target of Rs 50,000 million by 2015 and is focusing on ACs to grab a bigger share in the consumer durables market.

Wipro Infrastructure Engineering

Manufactures:Hydraulics cylinders, pistons, aerospace actuators, defence related components

Wipro Infrastructure Engineering, the global hydraulics business of Wipro, has inaugurated India’s first ever aerospace actuator manufacturing facility at Devanahalli SEZ in Bengaluru. In the first phase, the plant that has been set up on a 7.2 acre campus with an initial investment of Rs 650 million, will have an initial capacity to produce 2000 actuators a year. The existing infrastructure allows for expansion of capacity up to 8000 actuators per annum.

Bosch and Siemens Home, Household Appliances Manufacturing Ltd

Manufactures: Home appliances, floorcare and hot water appliances

Bosch and Siemens Home, Household Appliances Manufacturing Ltd is coming up with a manufacturing plant for home appliance in Chennai. The company forms part of the BSH group (Bosch and Siemens Hausgeraete GmbH) and is a largest manufacturer of home appliances in Europe. This facility will start its operations by the second half of 2014 and the plant will be set up at a cost of Rs 3500 million. Initially, the plant will produce about 0.6 million units. The plant will also serve as a research and development centre to develop products for India and the South East Asian region.
