Cover Tape 2679 incorporates improved static-dissipative technology to provide a high level of protection from static events during transport and storage.
Packaging is an important aspect of electronic components manufacturering, both for transport and storage. The 3M Electronic Solutions Division announced the launch of new 3M brand Static Dissipative Heat Activated Adhesive Cover Tape 2679, which is designed to seal electrical and electronic components into 3M polycarbonate carrier tapes. The polyester, adhesive film tape is designed to protect components from damage and claims to offer smoother peels and improved transparency for visual inspection. The tape’s heat-activated (HAA) cover tape seals with carrier tape through a heat application.
Cover Tape 2679 incorporates improved static-dissipative technology to provide a high level of protection from static events during transport and storage, reducing damage to components sensitive to electro-static discharge (ESD). The cover tape’s improved surface resistance and stable peel properties allow for a smooth, consistent peel from the carrier tape. A smooth peel can help reduce the risk of component migration and pick-and-place error.
The excellent transparency of Cover Tape 2679 enables better visual inspection to see that components are properly placed in the carrier tape, helping to prevent mis-picks. The cover tape’s adhesive forms a strong bond to polycarbonate carrier tape, decreasing the risk of delamination.
3M Cover Tape 2679 is available in 480-meter roll format in widths ranging from 5.2 mm to 49.4 mm.
