Companies in the region are looking to set-up solar farms.
Gradually the industrial sector is also moving towards solar energy in the country. With power resources crippled, owing to the vast size of factories being set-up, the domestic sector is keen to try its hand at the solar power option.
The latest sector to form an opinion on solar is the automobile industry. Majority of the known car makers are based out of Chennai and looking at the potential of solar in the region, these companies plan to join hands to source power from solar. Five auto component companies have reportedly decided to set up a solar power in Tuticorin or Sivaganga in the state.
According to the report, companies like Auto Parts, MM Forgings, The Rane group, Super Auto Forge and Natesan Industries have formed a consortium to set up a solar farm with a capacity of 7 MW at an investment of Rs 700 million.
Forming a consortium enables the cost of setting up the farm to be shared on equal proportion. The farm will be set in 25 acres and the estimated annual power generation from the plant should be 105 to 125 lakh units. The consortium is open to more partners in the initiative so that it can look up to 10 MW of generation.
The companies are looking for Tamil Nadu Electricity Board distribution’s support and clarity on power pricing and other directives, which is expected to be heard next month. The plant will be commissioned by September and within five months, the plant is expected to reach its gestation period.
