The Indian government is planning to make the insertion of a brochure on cyber-security with all hardware sold in the country a mandatory process. However, the idea has not gone down well with hardware firms, as they are concerned about the logistic challenges, which are already pretty inefficient. The firms will have to offer these pre-packaged brochures called ‘Cyber Security Awareness Brochures’, along with the goods, a report states.
Industry executives responsible for implementing the plan have voiced their concerns about the subject, which the government may not take lightly. They are negotiating with the authorities to reach a consensus on the proposal that Communications and IT Minister, Kapil Sibal, wanted to roll out at the beginning of the year.
The biggest problem for hardware companies will be the logistics hassles while dealing with imported products. Inserting a brochure with a product such as a mobile phone is a needless complication that could disrupt the normal supply chain.
