Gujarat is said to be one of the more prominent solar power-based regions in the country and this will be further boosted by REC, a Europe-based solar panel manufacturer.
REC will take the mantle of supplying its solar panels for two five MW solar power plants that will be set up in Gujarat. Luc Graré, senior vice president, Solar Sales and Marketing, REC said, “Renewable energy, especially solar electricity solutions, are needed to power India’s future because solar energy is available when needed – during peak hours.”
It is said that the viability cost of a unit power from an off-grid solar system, makes solar an increasingly attractive electricity solution compared to traditional power sources.
REC is aware about India’s outlined strategy to install 10 GW by 2017, most of which will be developed using utility-scale projects. The company is looking to cement its position in the country and expects a strong growth in the region of 1.6 to 1.8 GW in the Indian market this year.
The two solar power plants installed in Gujarat, cover an area of 8.1 hectares and produces eight million kWh of clean, green energy each year. The two plants developed by Euro Solar Power Pvt Ltd and Aatash Power have been provided with 21,520 and 20.480 solar panels by REC respectively.
Talking about the plants, Grare added, “We are pleased to be selected as panel supplier of choice by Euro Solar Power Private Limited and Aatash Power Pvt. Ltd and to establish a reliable partnership with them in India as we continue to expand in the Indian market. REC’s Peak Energy solar panels have an industry leading energy payback time of one year.”
