The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) is ensuring the race to generate solar power in the country does not lose steam. In this regard, the ministry will provide subsidy of 30 per cent on lights used in homes and streets and also a subsidy of 40 per cent on solar lanterns under the Off-grid Solar Applications Scheme of Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM).
Informing the Parliament of the figures, Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy, Dr. Farooq Abdullah said the subsidy for the solar street lights and home lights with LED luminaries is limited to Rs 81 per watt peak and is disbursed through State Renewable Development Agencies.
As of the subsidy for the solar lanterns and home lights, it is limited to Rs 108 per watt peak and is disbursed through NABARD, Regional Rural Banks and other Commercial Banks to individuals under the Scheme.
Ministry of Power (MoP) has proposed to install about 25 million LED bulbs over the next three to four years under the RGGVY program to electrify BPL household and promote LED bulbs under the Super Efficient Equipment Program (SEEP) in the 12th Plan. Under SEEP, the MoP has also proposed to provide financial incentives to fan manufacturers to produce super efficient fans, which will be available in the market at discounted price for the consumers.
MNRE has no proposal of providing any financial assistance for the manufacture of solar lanterns, home lights and street lights to anyone including medium and small enterprises, he said.
