Texas Instruments has launched a new analog-front-end (AFE), the ADS1293, for bipotential measurement applications such as portable, battery powered ECG solutions, Holter monitors and wireless patient monitoring equipment. The ADS 1293 is a 24-bit, 3-channel AFE and can support upto five leads. TI claims that this significantly reduces the size, power consumption and overall cost of scalable medical instrumentation systems.
Each channel of the ADS1293 can be individually programmed for a specific sample rate and bandwidth, allowing users to optimise configuration for performance and power. The AFE includes simultaneous digital ECG and pace signals on each channel to eliminate the need for a dedicated pace channel to reduce power consumption.
In addition to the ADS1293, TI has also unveiled the WEBENCH Medical AFE Designer, to allow designers to simplify and speed system design with the ADS1293 and enables users to design and configure the AFE online.
