Solar energy has always been seen as a definite power energy resource but due to its overall high cost of production and maintenance, the move to utilise more of solar resources have been minimal. So, the need for cutting production cost of the energy resource is a must to ensure solar remains an alternative to other sources.
This need has been stressed by E S L Narasimhan, Governor, Andhra Pradesh who talks about reducing the cost of production of solar power and asked scientists to suggest ways for making it affordable.
“Solar energy cannot be an effective alternative to the traditional thermal and hydel power unless its production cost is drastically reduced. Scientists should device ways for making solar power affordable,” he said.
Referring to scientific inventions, he underscored the need to take their benefit to villages. He said industrialisation should be eco-friendly. “Industries which pollute environment should be shunned.”
Looking at recent times, one cannot deny the obvious efforts being put by the government to encourage usage of solar energy. But still a lot of work needs to be done to put India on the solar-power hubs list.
