Mahindra & Mahindra has launched the first two models of its ‘Born Electric’ SUV series today, aiming to transform the electric vehicle market in India. The launches include the BE 6e, starting at ₹18.90 lakh, and the XEV 9e, starting from ₹21.90 lakh. These vehicles, built on the pioneering INGLO (Intelligent Electric Global) architecture and powered by the MAIA system, begin a new era in premium electric mobility. MAIA is acclaimed as the fastest automotive brain worldwide.
The company has announced that deliveries for these models will begin between late February and early March 2025, following a phased market introduction starting January 2025. The models come with a novel lifetime battery warranty for the initial registered private owners, with terms and conditions applicable, while subsequent owners will receive a 10-year/200,000 km warranty.
The design of these SUVs is guided by Mahindra’s “Heartcore Design” philosophy, presenting a bold, athletic silhouette in the BE 6e and a more sophisticated, suave SUV coupe design in the XEV 9e. Both share dimensions and an impressive wheelbase, signalling generous interior space.
Performance-wise, both models are available with two battery sizes, 79 kWh and 59 kWh LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) batteries, promising exceptional range, one of the highest in India. They also feature a powerful 3-in-1 integrated powertrain and fast charging capabilities that allow significant battery charge in under 20 minutes.
The technological offerings include the advanced MAIA system, running on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8295 chipset, enhanced with comprehensive connectivity options. Interior comfort is bolstered by a premium sound system developed in collaboration with AR Rahman and Richard King, featuring Harman Kardon speakers and Dolby Atmos.
Safety is a high priority, with advanced driver-assistance systems and the “Secure360” feature, which provides extensive surveillance capabilities.
Regarding investments, Mahindra is committing ₹4,500 crores for development and production out of a total ₹16,000 crore planned for the 2022-2027 cycle. This includes a new production facility slated to complete by March 2025, aiming for an annual output of 90,000 units.
The customer experience is enhanced with a team of luxury brand specialists and tech experts providing support and pre-purchase experiences. Additionally, Mahindra is launching a dedicated charging network to support their electric vehicles.
R Velusamy, President of Automotive Product Development at Mahindra, highlights the revolutionary nature of these new models, built on the INGLO architecture and powered by MAIA, reinforcing the company’s commitment to innovation and setting new global standards in the electric vehicle industry. This launch marks Mahindra’s most significant move in the electric vehicle market, focusing on Indian innovation and global excellence.
