Increased fuel costs, enhanced efficiency of vehicles, and governmental incentives are boosting the popularity of electric motorcycles in the UAE.
Indian electric two-wheeler company PURE EV has formed a partnership with UAE-based Arva Electric Vehicles Manufacturing, a subsidiary of Clarion Investment, to distribute electric motorcycles across the Middle East and Africa. This collaboration entails an initial shipment of 50,000 units of its premier models, ecoDryft and eTryst X, over two years, with future plans to increase annual deliveries to 60,000 units.
This initiative supports PURE EV’s goal of advancing sustainable transportation and entering markets where electric vehicles are becoming increasingly popular. Dr Nishanth Dongari, Founder and Managing Director of PURE EV, commented on the alliance, highlighting that the partnership is designed to not only increase sales but also promote sustainable transportation solutions in areas where electric motorcycles are becoming increasingly popular. He emphasised that this represents an important step in expanding their presence in the Middle East and African markets.
Projections show the UAE electric two-wheeler market expanding at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9.11% from 2024 to 2031, growing from USD 29.97 million in 2023 to USD 60.19 million by 2031. This growth is fueled by rising fuel costs, enhanced vehicle efficiency, and supportive government policies.
Beyond just supplying motorcycles, PURE EV will also act as a strategic technology advisor to Arva Electric, offering technical guidance and support throughout the distribution process.
PURE EV’s motorcycles are the only Indian electric bikes certified for use in the Middle East, having obtained all necessary regulatory approvals. This achievement highlights PURE EV’s capability to fulfil the increasing demand for eco-friendly transportation in the region.
Incubated at IIT Hyderabad’s i-TIC, PURE EV boasts over 75,000 EV users and maintains a network of 70 dealerships in India. The company’s innovations are protected by more than 120 patents. Furthermore, many of PURE EV’s motorcycles exceed 30,000 km in mileage, significantly reducing carbon emissions.
