BatX Energies has partnered with LW3 Pvt. Ltd. to enhance battery recycling using blockchain-based Digital Product Passports.

BatX Energies, a company specialising in lithium-ion battery recycling and sustainable energy solutions, has formed a strategic alliance with LW3 Pvt. Ltd., which offers Digital Product Passport (DPP) solutions utilizing blockchain and IoT technologies. This partnership focuses on enhancing battery lifecycle management by providing a traceable and sustainable approach for energy storage systems (ESS).

LW3’s DPP technology will be employed to meticulously track the history, usage, and origin of materials in batteries from their creation to their disposal. This initiative supports BatX’s commitment to fostering a circular economy in the energy sector.

Utkarsh Singh, CEO of BatX Energies, emphasized that this collaboration with LW3 is in line with BatX’s objective to promote a circular economy for battery materials both in India and internationally. He noted that digital passports will increase transparency in the recycling process and supply chain, aiding in compliance with international regulations and enhancing operational scalability.

The partnership addresses the issue of traceability in the international movement of battery scrap, particularly from non-OECD countries such as India. It is poised to help electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers and battery producers meet their sustainability targets and streamline Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) compliance.

By integrating LW3’s blockchain and IoT technologies, BatX aims to bolster material accountability and compliance, especially in European markets. This cooperation introduces blockchain-enabled solutions to BatX’s reverse logistics, ensuring a secure and transparent collection of end-of-life (EOL) batteries.

Abhijit Pegu, Co-founder and CEO of LW3 Pvt. Ltd. expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, pointing out that their mutual commitment to sustainability and innovation positions them well to establish new benchmarks in global battery recycling.

Additionally, the partnership supports international digital product passport standards, including the European Union’s CIRPASS initiative, enabling BatX to help its partners meet recycling and reuse standards while promoting sound environmental practices worldwide.

The companies are dedicated to advancing a circular economy by improving the lifecycle management of battery materials through cutting-edge technology. They plan to seek joint funding opportunities to enhance battery recycling technologies, presenting promising investment possibilities.

Their collaboration was further solidified by participating in the India-EU TTC Working Group 2 Matchmaking Event for Battery Recycling Technology, organized by the Principal Scientific Advisor, Government of India, and the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation, European Commission. This event facilitated international cooperation on battery recycling and circular economy innovations in India and the EU.
