To nurture sustainability, Santa Clara University has teamed up with Paired Power to install solar EV chargers for its fleet of maintenance vehicles.
Santa Clara University, California, has partnered with Paired Power to supply clean energy to its electric maintenance vehicles. The collaboration will involve installing two PairTree solar EV chargers in its facilities yard, supporting the university’s aim to reduce carbon emissions.
The PairTree chargers stand apart from traditional EV chargers that depend on the utility grid, as they harness clean solar energy. These combine solar power with grid energy and battery storage, ensuring resilience against extreme weather conditions. It also guarantees charging for the around the clock.
Sean Collins, the university’s assistant vice president for University Operations, emphasised that the installation is key to demonstrating responsible energy practices to students.
However, no financial details of the partnership was disclosed by the university.
Paired Power, known for its American-made solar and microgrid chargers, has seen its PairTree and PairFleet products adopted by various organisations, including Fortune 500 companies and federal agencies. Santa Clara University is among the first universities in the area to incorporate these systems for its fleet.
Tom McCalmont, CEO of Paired Power, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, highlighting the importance of reducing reliance on fossil fuels while showcasing solar technology’s potential for sustainability. Additionally, the quick installation process and bifacial panel design maximise energy efficiency.
This project aligns with SCU’s strategic sustainability plan, ‘Leading Through Laudato Si’, which aims to promote environmental responsibility.
