Eyeing to boost innovation in automotive, consumer, and 5G sectors, Jacobs teams up with CG Semi to design a 28-acre semiconductor OSAT facility in Sanand, India.
Last week, Jacobs, an engineering services firm, announced its appointment with CG Semi to handle the engineering design for a new outsourced semiconductor assembly and testing (OSAT) facility in Sanand, Gujarat, India.
As per the announcement, Jacobs will act as the engineering, procurement, and construction services (EPCS) partner for the mini line and the main line’s engineering partner in the unit.
The company revealed that the main facility will cover over 28 acres and produce a range of advanced and legacy packages for sectors including automotive, consumer goods, industrial applications, and 5G technology.
Earlier, there had been reports that CG Power’s semiconductor division, CG Semi, had engaged Jacobs to develop its forthcoming chip assembly plant in Sanand. CG Semi is a collaboration between CG Power, Renesas Electronics Corporation, and Stars Microelectronics (Thailand).
Bob Pragada, Chair and CEO of Jacobs, stated that this partnership with CG Semi highlights their focus on providing innovative and sustainable solutions in India’s rapidly growing semiconductor sector. He expressed eagerness to leverage their experience in the U.S., Europe, and Asia to contribute to the new facility’s success, which will foster growth and technological advancement in the region.
According to the Economic Times, Pragada had previously said that Jacobs was actively engaged with four out of five chip projects approved by the government, noting a full engagement role with CG Power and the Tata Group.
He added that the CG Semi facility is also a crucial partner for packaging, testing, and assembly for Renesas, and the construction of the pilot plant is underway while design work continues for the main facility.
