Announcing a partnership at the SEMICON India event, IESA is set to represent SEMI in the domestic chip industry, besides maintaining its brand, to bolster India’s global competency and utilise government incentives.
SEMI has announced a collaboration with the India Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA) at the inauguration of SEMICON India 2024. As per the agreement, IESA will join SEMI’s semiconductor and electronics design and manufacturing network and act as its representative in India.
This partnership aims to support India’s goal of becoming a ‘Semiconductor Powerhouse,’ strengthening the country’s position in the global supply chain. While IESA will maintain its current brand, it will adopt SEMI’s processes and select initiatives, giving the latter direct access to India’s expanding chip market.
Furthermore, this agreement will facilitate synergetic policy advocacy, with IESA and SEMI joining forces to work with both Central and State governments. The goal is to boost product development and manufacturing incentives through key programs like the production-linked incentive (PLI) and design-linked incentive (DLI) schemes.
Commenting on the agreement, Ajit Manocha, President and CEO, SEMI, stated, “This partnership will help SEMI grow a strong presence in this critical emerging market and enable both organisations to identify tangible strategies that leverage our combined strengths to enhance supply chain resilience.”
The collaboration will strengthen domestic production in alignment with India’s ‘Make in India’ initiative, boost workforce development, enhance competitiveness, and promote greater technological independence.
Noting this, Dr Veerappan, Chairperson, and Ashok Chandak, President, IESA, highlighted, “By combining our capabilities with SEMI’s global standards, network, and resources, we are fortifying India’s ambitions and attracting global partnerships and investments to scale up design, manufacturing, and production capacities.”
The Semiconductor Executive Forum, held on September 10th before the SEMICON India event and chaired by Mr Ashvini Vaishnaw, the Union Minister for Railways, Electronics and IT, and Information and Broadcasting, featured over 100 industry leaders from SEMI member companies, including many IESA members.
During the forum, fourteen senior executives (CXOs) from SEMI and IESA discussed accelerating the development of the semiconductor sector with the Prime Minister of India, Mr Narendra Modi.
Global CXOs contributed valuable insights, advising the government and industry on transforming current momentum into long-term growth.
The announcement coincides with SEMICON India 2024, happening at the India Expo Mart, Greater Noida, from September 11-13. The event, themed ‘Shaping the Semiconductor Future,’ will feature over 600 exhibitors, 100+ global companies, and 50+ industry experts.
