Eyeing to boost local jobs in the semiconductor sector and fill supply chain gaps, Surat-based Suchi Semicon is set to establish a $100 million OSAT unit in Gujarat by the end of this year.
Suchi Semicon, a semiconductor assembling firm based in Surat, has announced plans to invest more than $100 million in establishing Gujarat’s inaugural Semiconductor Assembly and Testing (OSAT) facility by November 2024.
This new plant will cover an initial area of 30,000 square feet and have the capacity to produce up to 3 million chips daily. It will serve major sectors, including consumer electronics, automotive, telecommunications, and wearable technology.
Additionally, the facility is anticipated to create around 1,200 job opportunities and contribute to local economic development.
The company aims to provide competitive pricing and quality services in the international semiconductor market. Furthermore, Suchi Semicon has partnered with engineering institutions such as SVNIT (Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology) and Gujarat Technological University (GTU) through MoUs to develop skills and build a proficient workforce.
The OSAT factory focuses on boosting India’s semiconductor production and addressing global demand by localising assembly and testing. This will reduce supply chain delays and lower logistics costs for companies with design operations in India.
Highlighting that India’s semiconductor industry is at a crucial turning point, Ashok Mehta, Founder of Suchi Semicon, stated that the facility aims to cut supply chain inefficiency, provide budget-friendly valuation and premium services using advanced technology.
Shetal Mehta, Co-Founder of the company, regarded local empowerment and skill development as their primary focus in the project. She hopes this venture will set a new standard for regional semiconductor manufacturing and bolster India’s position in the global tech arena.
