During its “Sankalp 2024” event, Ola Electric made several key announcements that have significantly stirred the electric vehicle (EV) industry. The highlight of the event was the debut of three innovative electric motorcycles, paired with advancements in technology poised to catalyze Ola’s continued growth in the sector.
One of the standout announcements involved Ola’s ambitious strategy for its electric scooter array. The company detailed plans to extend its range beyond the existing S1 series by introducing two additional sub-brands named S2 and S3. This expansion strategy is set to enrich Ola’s portfolio with five additional electric scooters.
The S2 brand will roll out three models, each tailored for different riding needs: the City model for urban commuting, the Tourer for longer distances, and the Sports model for performance enthusiasts. Conversely, the S3 sub-brand will target the premium segment with two maxi-scooters, named the Grand Adventure and Grand Tourer, designed to deliver luxury and high performance.
The forthcoming S2 and S3 scooters will be built on the newly introduced GEN 3 platform, which is expected to provide enhanced performance and range. This platform aims to rectify some of the drawbacks seen in the earlier S1 models. While Ola Electric continues to develop its new electric motorcycles and scooters, the S2 and S3 models are still in the preliminary stages of development, indicating a future market release.
Expanding its scooter lineup represents a strategic initiative by Ola to solidify its market position. By diversifying its offerings and targeting distinct market segments, Ola intends to attract a wider customer base.
This strategy is crucial as the brand aims to continue its growth and cement its status as a leader in the electric vehicle domain. Ola Electric, a pioneer in the Indian electric vehicle market, has recently showcased its innovative Gen 3 platform. This platform is set to transform the electric mobility landscape with improved performance, extended range, and advanced technology.
The Gen 3 platform incorporates several innovative features, such as the use of 4680 cells, known for their high energy density and fast charging capabilities, which are expected to enhance the range and reduce charging times of Ola’s electric scooters, projected to debut with Bharat Cell by Q1 FY 2026.
Additionally, the new platform focuses on integrating components more closely, which includes compactly aligning the motor and battery pack. This design not only optimizes space but also reduces the vehicle’s weight. The platform also features a significantly simplified wiring harness, enhancing reliability, boosting performance, and streamlining the manufacturing process.
