The Raspberry Pi Pico 2, which now has a new microcontroller and double the built-in memory, is available to order.

element14 has announced that it is now offering customers the Raspberry Pi Pico 2, a compact and efficient microcontroller board developed by Raspberry Pi. The Raspberry Pi Pico 2 retains the same dimensions as the original Pico, but it features an upgrade in performance with the new RP2350 microcontroller, also designed by Raspberry Pi.

Compared to the RP2040 microcontroller, introduced in 2021, the RP2350 offers several advancements. These include a 150MHz system clock, dual Arm Cortex-M33 cores, dual Hazard3 RISC-V cores, 520KB SRAM, 8KB of on-chip antifuse OTP storage, an enhanced security model based on Arm TrustZone for Cortex-M, and improved power efficiency.

It is equipped with 4MB of on-board flash memory for code and data storage, doubling the capacity of the original Pico. The RP2350 microcontroller incorporates key security features, such as OTP for boot configuration and key storage, ROM support for stage 2 bootloader authentication using a public key fingerprint in OTP, and system infrastructure support for Arm TrustZone for Cortex-M. The RP2350 also includes a comprehensive peripheral set, featuring 2 UARTs, 2 SPI controllers, 2 I2C controllers, 24 PWM channels, a USB 1.1 controller with host and device support, and 12 PIO state machines. The enhanced QSPI interface provides a double-banked cache for improved hit bandwidth and supports flash and PSRAM, burst transfers, odd clock divisors, and address translation.

Eben Upton, CEO of Raspberry Pi, commented on the release, stating that the second-generation microcontroller RP2350 and the Raspberry Pi Pico 2 offer higher performance, lower power consumption, and greater security, providing users with a robust platform for experimentation and innovation. Simon Wade, Senior Global Product Manager for Single Board Computing at element14, highlighted the continued popularity of Raspberry Pi products. He expressed confidence that the enhanced features of the Raspberry Pi Pico 2 represent a significant improvement over the original Pico, generating excitement among enthusiasts globally. The Raspberry Pi Pico 2 is now available for order from element14 in the APAC region.
