On average, owners of electric vehicles (EVs) reported lower satisfaction compared to owners of internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, attributing their discontent to the daily inconveniences associated with EV ownership.
Park+, an app used by 15 million car owners in India, surveyed 500 electric vehicle (EV) owners across Delhi NCR, Mumbai, and Bangalore to gauge their experiences and views. The survey aimed to explore the practical aspects of owning an EV. Data from the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) showed that around 91,000 electric passenger vehicles were sold in India during the 2023-24 financial year.
The findings revealed significant challenges: 88% of those surveyed expressed concerns over charging anxiety due to the difficulty in locating accessible, safe, and operational charging stations, even though there are over 20,000 EV charging stations across India. Additionally, 73% of the participants were unsure about maintenance costs, facing challenges in understanding their vehicle’s systems and finding reliable information about repair expenses.
Concerns about resale value also emerged, with 33% of respondents receiving lower-than-expected offers when inquiring about their EV’s resale value. Moreover, 51% of four-wheeler EV owners indicated they might choose a different type of vehicle rather than purchasing another EV.
Popular models among the respondents included the TATA Nexon EV, preferred by 61%, and the TATA Punch EV, chosen by 19%.
Amit Lakhotia, Founder & CEO of Park+, commented on the survey, highlighting that the goal of Park+ is to enhance the joy of car ownership. He emphasized that the survey was conducted to better understand the mindset of EV owners in India and noted the current challenges in the EV market, particularly charging anxiety, which now exceeds range anxiety. As the leading EV charger installer in the country, Park+ is committed to improving the EV ownership experience and is keen on collaborating with other stakeholders to develop a robust and intelligent EV charging infrastructure.
