This collaboration aims to enhance India’s defence capabilities with locally produced rockets, to boost the country’s manufacturing sector, and create employment opportunities.
Defence equipment manufacturer Adani Defence and Aerospace has partnered with French aerospace firm Thales Group to manufacture a 70mm rocket system in India. Local production of 70mm rockets in India will ensure a steady and reliable supply, enhancing the operational readiness of the Indian Armed Forces.
Additionally, the collaboration with Thales aligns with the Indian government’s “Make in India” and Atma Nirbhar Bharat’s vision for India’s growing defence industry. The production of 70mm rockets in India will not only enhance our defence capabilities but also create numerous job opportunities, thereby supporting economic development.
The 70 mm Rockets produced under this partnership will be used by India’s attack helicopters, such as HAL Rudra and Prachand Helicopters, known for their high-altitude warfare capabilities, which also rely on advanced weaponry systems.
The 70mm rockets fired from India’s light combat and Rudra attack helicopters can hit targets on the ground with unparalleled precision. Each light combat helicopter operated by both the Indian Air Force and the Indian Army can mount 48 rockets in pods. These can be guided with lasers to ensure maximum accuracy.
According to a Twitter post by Thales Group, the partnership seeks to contribute to the future growth and success of India’s defence sector.
Adani Defence & Aerospace has also recently signed a landmark agreement with EDGE Group, one of the leading advanced technology and defence groups in the UAE. This strategic agreement aims to establish a global platform, leveraging the defence and aerospace capabilities of both companies.
It will focus on developing R&D facilities in India and the UAE and setting up production and maintenance facilities for defence and aerospace solutions, ensuring a promising future for all involved.
