The automaker aims to diversify its EV portfolio with multiple all-electric SUVs and expand its global footprint by tapping into newer markets by 2030.
Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), a prominent Indian automaker, is setting its sights on enlarging its global presence by breaking into new markets by the year 2030. During a recent investor presentation, the company unveiled its strategy to penetrate regions including the UK and Western Europe. In a strategic move, M&M has situated its design hub, Mahindra Advanced Design Europe (MADE), in Oxfordshire, England. This centre is currently at the forefront of designing the company’s forthcoming electric vehicle (EV) lineup. In addition to these new territories, M&M will continue to strengthen its position in its established markets across the SAARC countries, Australia, New Zealand, Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America.
Situated in Banbury, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom, M.A.D.E’s main objective is to develop all future Mahindra EVs and pioneering vehicle design concepts. The facility was officially opened by Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra and the UK’s International Trade Minister, Ranil Jayawardena. Equipped with cutting-edge design technologies, M.A.D.E can manage the entire design process from concept to creation, including 3D digital and physical modelling, Class-A surfacing, digital visualization, and Human-Machine Interface (HMI) design. The facility features a comprehensive digital visualization suite, a clay modelling studio, VR digital modelling, and areas for digital and physical presentations.
M&M is gearing up to enhance its EV offerings with the launch of seven new all-electric SUVs by 2030. These vehicles are designed to captivate customers worldwide through their robust performance, driven by innovative technologies and the democratization of technology. The initial phase of this ambitious rollout will see the introduction of the XUV700-based XUV.e8 by the end of the calendar year 2024, followed by novel EVs from its ‘Born Electric’ sub-brand, encompassing models BE.05, BE.07, and BE.09, with the first model expected to debut in late 2025.
Furthermore, Mahindra has disclosed plans to electrify popular models from its internal combustion engine (ICE) lineup, including the Thar, Scorpio, and Bolero, rebranded as Thar.e, Scorpio.e, and Bolero.e, respectively. This expansion will contribute to the company’s goal of offering seven electric models by 2030. Mahindra is committed to focusing on customer-centricity, value innovation, and technological advancements to capture a larger market share.
In pursuit of excellence, M&M is dedicated to providing top-tier, safe, and off-road capable electric SUVs. The company also aims to democratize technology, as seen with its Adrenox technology suite, now available in the XUV700, Scorpio, and the latest XUV 3XO.
To support its growth targets in the EV market, M&M plans to boost its production capacity to 10,000 units by the end of fiscal year 2025, with an increase to 18,000 units by the end of fiscal year 2026. This expansion represents a 3.5-fold increase in overall capacity from fiscal year 2020. Through these initiatives, M&M intends to establish strong, standalone brands within its EV portfolio, leveraging this brand strength to attract customers both domestically and internationally.
