5G Chipset Market to Hit $92.09B by 2030

Reports indicate that the global next-gen wireless processor market is on track to surpass the $100 billion mark in the coming decade.

The 5G chipset market share is booming, currently estimated to be USD 13.29 billion. According to a report by Adroit Market Research, the current figure is anticipated to reach USD 92.09 billion by 2030 with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 21.1%. 

The report also states that by 2032, the market share for 5G semiconductors will be USD 180 billion. The calculated CAGR between 2022 and 2032 is 25.5% for the entire forecast period. This 5G chipset market surge directly responds to the escalating consumer demand for gadgets that can harness new technology, such as 5G networks.

A 5G chipset, or microchip, is a crucial component designed to enable 5G connections in devices like smartphones, tablets, routers, and other connected devices. It comprises parts like a baseband processor and an RF transceiver to control and process communication between the device and the network. 5G enables efficient communication, network performance, and new user experiences, driving its adoption and market growth across industries. 

The demand for devices with faster speeds and lower latency is set to soar, further underscoring the necessity of 5G chipsets to power these devices. Rising IoT adoption and demand for wireless tech propel the 5G chipset market globally. 

Smartphone popularity is driving the demand for 5G chipsets, leading to their rapid integration by manufacturers. Other industries, such as automotive and healthcare, also fuel the need for specialised 5G chipsets tailored to their requirements. The expansion of network infrastructure, the demand for high-speed connectivity, and the integration of IoT devices further boost the market.

Application-Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs) are projected to maintain their leading market position, with a 48% share in 2020. ASIC technology delivers advantages like faster performance and greater density, appealing to numerous 5G chipset producers. SoC designs built on ASICs are favoured for their power efficiency and ability to operate at high frequencies, meeting mass manufacturing requirements.

In terms of operational frequency, Sub-6GHz dominates the market, driven by leading companies releasing 5G chipsets for sub-6GHz bands in smartphones, cars, and laptops. As IoT and self-driving cars require faster networks, demand for mmWave chipsets will rise. The popularity of home IoT applications will further drive demand for mmWave chipsets, especially those supporting 5G NR, leading to significant growth in the sub-6GHz + mmWave category.

Region-wise, North America dominates the global 5G chipset market with a nearly 90% share, driven by factors like tech adoption, the presence of key firms, and high demand for fast networks. Factors like robust IT infrastructure, IoT penetration, and research investments also contribute to North America’s growth. 

The report sees the growth as a promising factor for market stakeholders. Chip makers continuously innovate to improve performance and affordability, expanding the market to meet evolving network and device needs.
