The Japanese car manufacturer and parts supplier will collaborate to develop and jointly produce eAxles for battery electric vehicles. Subaru will begin production in the latter half of this decade.
Subaru Corporation and Aisin Corporation have announced a collaborative effort to jointly develop and produce eAxles for battery electric vehicles (BEVs). Subaru plans to start manufacturing in the latter half of the 2020s. By leveraging their combined expertise in vehicle and transmission development, the partnership aims to create highly efficient, lightweight, and compact axles while also considering the diverse environments in which customers will use their vehicles.
An eAxle is a critical drive unit that integrates essential components such as a gearbox, motor, and inverter into an axle structure, enabling propulsion in vehicles primarily powered by electric motors, like BEVs.
Furthermore, both companies will explore optimal suppliers and production strategies, mindful of maintaining and evolving the existing supply chain amidst the significant shifts brought about by the move towards vehicle electrification.
Subaru and Aisin share a common vision of contributing to a carbon-neutral society. Subaru has laid a roadmap to achieve this goal by 2050, focusing on accelerating electrification efforts. On the other hand, Aisin is committed to advancing initiatives in production and products to reach carbon neutrality and is prioritizing the development of the eAxle, aiming for greater efficiency and compactness.
