Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared that one crore houses will be equipped with rooftop solar panels nationwide. The announcement has been made under the Pradhanmantri Suryodaya Yojana.
Recently, PM Modi said on Twitter, “The first decision I have taken after returning from Ayodhya is that our government will launch the ‘Pradhanmantri Suryodaya Yojana’ with the target of installing rooftop solar on 1 crore houses. This will reduce the electricity bill of the poor and middle class and make India self-reliant in the energy field,” said the Prime Minister on X.
This rooftop solar involves the installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) panels on the roof of a building or home. Currently, India has the National Rooftop Scheme under the power Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE). This scheme offers financial support to 40% of the capital cost for solar rooftop projects. The agenda is to provide electricity to low and middle-income individuals through solar rooftop installations.
PM Modi immediately after his visit to Ayodhya, chaired a meeting to launch Pradhanmantri Suryodaya Yojana with the target of installing rooftop solar in 1 crore houses at his residence on Lok Kalyan Marg.
PM feels that by following such steps India can become truly Aatmanirbhar for their electricity needs. It will also reduce the electricity bills.
The Prime Minister also directed that a massive national campaign should be started to mobilize residential segment consumers to adopt rooftop solar in large numbers.
