Dr HaniF Qureshi, IPS, has been appointed as Additional Secretary to the Government of India in the Ministry of Heavy Industries.
“Joined as Additional Secretary to the Government of India in the Ministry Of Heavy Industries by the grace of God. Will be looking after the automobile division which is the policy-making arm for automobiles including electric, hydrogen, ethanol, and all other types of fuels. Look forward to working with the #industry and all stakeholders,” he posted on social media.
Previously, he was working in the same ministry, in the capacity of a Joint Secretary. In the Hierarchy of a Ministry in the Government of India, the position of Additional Secretary is above Joint Secretary and also above Directors and Deputy Secretaries.
Dr Qureshi is known in the industry to handle the FAME II fiasco swiftly, and with utmost care for all the parties involved. An IPS, he has Superintendent of Police of eight districts and IGP of two ranges, apart from being the Commissioner of Police, Faridabad, Haryana.
After doing B.Tech. and M.Tech, he did his MBA and Ph.D. (Criminal Justice) from the University of Cincinnati, USA. His role in the MHI has been seen as one of the instrumental ones in shaping up the current electric vehicles adoption policies.
Moreover, he has played a vital role in the better implementation of the Government of India’s Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid &) Electric Vehicles (FAME II) policy.
