With 28 years of extensive experience in renowned companies like GE, Flowserve, and Tyco, he is poised to lead Tata Power’s renewable energy portfolio, focusing on solar, wind, hybrid, and green energy solutions while spearheading innovation and digital transformation.
Tata Power has made a significant leadership announcement today. Mr. Deepesh Nanda has been appointed as the President-Renewables and CEO & MD of Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a subsidiary of Tata Power. His appointment, effective from November 1, 2023, underscores Tata Power’s commitment to strengthening its presence in the renewable energy domain.
Mr. Nanda is a seasoned leader in the energy sector, boasting 28 years of extensive experience gained through his roles in renowned companies such as GE, Flowserve, and Tyco. Before joining Tata Power, he served as the Chief Executive Officer for South Asia at GE Gas Power, overseeing operations in India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, and Nepal. He was President & CEO of GE’s Aero-derivative Gas Turbine business segment for Asia. Mr. Nanda holds a degree in Mechanical and Production Engineering from Annamalai University, India, and completed his MBA from the Open University Business School, Milton Keynes, UK. He has also undergone extensive leadership training at GE Crotonville.
In his new capacity, he will drive growth and profitability in Tata Power’s renewable energy portfolio, encompassing many solutions, including solar, wind, hybrid, and B2C green energy initiatives. Furthermore, he will lead the charge in spearheading innovation and digital transformation efforts within the renewable energy sector.

This leadership change within Tata Power is designed to provide focus on different business segments and growth areas. Mr. Ashish Khanna, a longstanding Tata Power veteran, will be taking on the role of President for the Generation business cluster. In this capacity, he will oversee the company’s forthcoming pumped hydro storage plants, hydro plants, and other new initiatives in addition to the existing hydro and thermal plants in India and abroad.
Dr. Sinha expressed his gratitude to Mr. Khanna for his significant contributions to the growth of Tata Power Solar and Renewables business, elevating it to a leading position in the renewable energy sector.
