  • Solar remained the major renewable energy source in Feb, followed by wind energy
  • Gujarat emerged as the no. 1 state to add the maximum RE capacity, both solar & wind, in January 2023

As per the latest report by JMK Research, the total energy generated from renewable sources in February 2023 dropped 10.4% lower than the RE generation in January 2023. On the upside, solar generation increased by 4.26% month-on-month. But at the same time, wind generation decreased by 35.82%, causing a major decline in the overall trend. Reportedly, a sum of around $499 million was invested in the Indian RE sector last month. As per the research, 24 new renewable energy (RE) tenders with a cumulative capacity of 8508 MW were issued in the month of February. It is noteworthy that SECI issued a 1200 MW wind (Phase XIV) tender in India.

The report also mentioned some notable updates in the field of renewables. While ST Telemedia Global Data Centres India (STT GDC India) partnered with O2 Power to obtain RE under a captive structure for its data centre in Bengaluru, Sprng Energy received the termination of the power purchase agreement (PPA) signed with the SECI for its 100 MW wind project in Madhya Pradesh. It further said that Emmvee Group is building a new 1.5 GW solar cell line and 1.75 GW module manufacturing facility at Dabaspet, Bengaluru. Moreover, Tata Power aims to operationalize its solar cell and module facility being set up in Tamil Nadu by December 2023.

It is learnt that the state of Rajasthan is set to install a 2000 MW solar park and new power plants in Chhabra and Kalisindh, out of which Rajasthan Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RVUNL) has the responsibility to set up an 810 MW solar park.
