Samsung’s research unit will provide training and access to technology and equipment to students and teachers as per its Samsung Innovation Campus module.
Samsung Semiconductor India Research (SSIR) has partnered with Karnataka’s Department of Collegiate and Technical Education (DCTE) to enhance technical skills in the Internet of Things (IoT) and artificial intelligence (AI) for more than a thousand students and teachers in 37 polytechnic colleges across 30 districts of Karnataka.
The collaboration is a part of Samsung’s corporate social responsibility program, Samsung Innovation Campus (SIC). The company said that the program aims to provide hands-on training and access to cutting-edge technologies to students in rural areas.
The program will include all the adequate facilities, required kits, and equipment along with IoT and AI-based training for students as per the SIC module. SSIR said that this module aims to include industrial skills as part of the student’s curriculum. Under a multidisciplinary approach, the students would be provided with a space to solve local problems through practical experience working in the fields of agriculture, healthcare, manufacturing, water, and energy management.
Students would have to go through theoretical as well as practical applications as per the course module. They would be assessed during and after the completion of the course. In the end, students would have to prepare a project in the final stage. Certificates would be given out after reaching a certain level of training.
Commenting on the partnership, Balajee Sowrirajan, CVP, Samsung Electronics & MD, SSIR, said, “We truly concur with the government’s focus on “Make AI for India’ but also ‘Make AI work for India’ and our goal is to empower the future of the country with leading IoT and AI knowledge and skills, and create limitless opportunities for them in the fast-growing technology sector.”
Samsung has been making significant waves in the development of technical education in India. The company has also partnered with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, to promote research and development in the field of on-chip electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection.
Last year, Samsung India announced that it would hire around 1000 engineers for its R&D institutes, including its Samsung Semiconductor India Research in Bengaluru.
