Drones To Spray Pesticides & Nutrients In Agri-Fields

  • Drone-maker Garuda Aerospace joins hands with agri-inputs provider Rallis India
  • The aim is to create drone-tech awareness among farmers and provide an end-to-end experience of drone-based applications
  • Pilot demonstration to run in Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra

India’s leading drone manufacturer, Garuda Aerospace, recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a major agriculture industry player, Rallis India Limited. Under the agreement, Rallis, a subsidiary of Tata Chemicals, will supply pesticides and crop nutrients to Garuda Aerospace, which will use drones to spray pesticides on fields. The pilot demonstration will take place majorly in Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh. The two companies suggested that the partnership will work for the betterment of the farmers by leveraging technology in their agricultural operations.

It is learnt that the drone pilots will conduct demonstrations on around 1000 acres of land covering crops like paddy, Bengal gram, wheat, onion, and other vegetables. The partners believe that this drone-based solution will also enable businesses to achieve their sustainability goals by helping drive the efficient use of resources.

Showing excitement to collaborate with Rallis India Limited, the founder and CEO of 2015-born Garuda Aerospace, Agnishwar Jayaprakash said: “The partnership will demonstrate end-to-end drone service solutions to farmers and the channel partners. This shall also make Agri operations convenient for Drone pilots to conduct better demonstrations for the farmers. We seek to make farmers Atamanirbhar and create employment opportunities for them. Garuda is known to provide low-cost Drone-based solutions, as well as related software and analytical tools, to help businesses boost productivity and cut expenses.”

The official note stated that this partnership between Garuda Kisan Drones and Rallis India will help leverage the key strengths of the collaborators. While Rallis India is known for its penetrative distribution network, Garuda Aerospace is known to provide the best drone solution in the agriculture sector, it further added.

Chief Operating Officer of Rallis India, Mr S Nagarajan remarked: “With the technology revolution upon us, we are moving towards a tech-adapted environment rapidly. At Rallis India, we have initiated trials and experiments of our product approvals for label expansion for drone spray. It would be an emerging segment for the industry and we plan to emerge fast in this segment. This is being done in collaboration with service providers for drone application in the crop protection and crop nutrition sectors. In line with this approach, this collaboration is aimed at not only educating farmers and channel partners but also providing first-hand experience of the advantages of drone applications. We are continuously focused on making farming more resilient. We are certain that this collaboration will further augment this endeavour.”

Chennai-based Garuda Aerospace was founded in 2015 and boasts a fleet of 400 drones and over 500 pilots in 26 locations across the country. At its core, Garuda recognises itself as a ‘Drone-As-A-Software’ aggregator that designs impeccable drones for a myriad of human and industrial needs.

Rallis India is an agri-inputs provider and a subsidiary of Tata Chemicals, which is part of the salt-to-software conglomerate — Tata Group. it claims to have a strong distribution network for crop care and seeds.
